Requirements:

• LLB or equivalent legal qualification; admission as an attorney is highly advantageous.
• 5–10 years of proven experience in legal, compliance, or risk roles.
• Strong expertise in South African corporate, commercial and regulatory law.
• Experience managing credit risk, insurance, and regulatory functions within a corporate or financial environment.
• Exceptional negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Confident decision-making and the ability to identify and mitigate legal risk.
• High integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities and expectations but not limited to:

Legal Contract Management

• Draft, review, and negotiate all internal and external contracts.
• Ensure all agreements comply with current legal and regulatory standards.
• Standardize contract templates across business units to streamline legal reviews. 

Legal Dispute Management

• Lead the management and resolution of legal disputes across commercial, operational and employment matters.
• Collaborate with external legal counsel where required.
• Maintain a risk register of legal exposures and active matters. 

Credit Risk Oversight

• Oversee the final review and approval of all credit applications.
• Define legal frameworks for assessing the creditworthiness of clients and business partners.
• Partner with finance and operations teams to ensure sound credit practices.

Insurance Governance

• Manage the full insurance claims process, from initiation to resolution. 
• Ensure the company maintains adequate insurance coverage for all operational risks and assets.
• Coordinate with insurance brokers and providers to optimize policy coverage and claims outcomes.

Regulatory & Legislative Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable South African legislation and industry regulations, including but not limited to:
  • POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act).
  • PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act).
  • B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment).
  • Employment Equity Act, Consumer Protection and other industry-specific statutes.
• Conduct compliance training and internal audits regularly.
• Maintain accurate compliance records and prepare regulatory submissions as required.
