Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or equivalent
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- 3–5 years relevant work experience
- Strong knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures
- Sound understanding of GLP and GMP
- Strong initiative, accountability, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Good numerical and analytical ability
- High attention to detail and strict adherence to procedures and policies
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and implement the company’s Food Safety Management System
- Experience in the food manufacturing industry with cross-functional collaboration
- Subject matter expertise in Food Safety (HACCP), Quality Assurance, FSSC 22000, Food Microbiology, quality tools and programs
- Proven experience ensuring compliance with South African regulations, including the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act
Responsibilities:
Quality:
- Support improvement, maintenance, and compliance of the Quality Management System
- Assist in establishing and implementing Food Safety and Quality Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Specifications
- Promote best practices in Quality and Food Safety; contribute to company success through teamwork and judgement
- Champion food safety culture
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, QA, FSSC 22000, South African regulations, and customer requirements
- Participate in Internal Audits, HACCP, TACCP (Food Defence), VACCP (Food Fraud), and Special Situations Teams
- Serve as Deputy for SANS1841 standard; implement and maintain standards
- Assist with action plans to close non-conformances from internal and external audits
- Support investigations and resolution of non-conformances
Supplier Management:
- Manage Supplier Approval Process with Food Technologist; perform supplier audits as required
- Implement and maintain Supplier Quality Assurance controls and documentation
- Define and monitor quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers
Calibration:
- Manage and maintain company equipment calibration program
Training:
- Educate and coach colleagues on Quality, Food Safety, customer, and regulatory requirements
- Provide on-the-job training on HACCP, GMP, GLPs, sanitation, pest control, traceability, allergen and extraneous matter management, food defence, and special situations
General:
- Comply with health and safety, food safety procedures, OHS Act, and FSSC 22000
- Follow GMP, personal hygiene, and housekeeping procedures to ensure safe products
- Report any non-conformance or food safety risk to supervisors or managers
- Participate in internal and external training
- Perform other tasks as assigned
