Description

Our client, a well-known automotive manufacturer, is seeking to employ a skilled and trade-tested Diesel Technician to join their workshop team based in Cape Town.

Requirements:

  • Matric (essential).
  • Completed Diesel Trade Test.
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Code 14 driver’s licence with PDP.
  • Strong technical expertise and mechanical understanding.
  • Physically fit and able to perform hands-on workshop tasks.
  • Good hand–eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and quality workmanship.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Workshop Foreman in maintaining efficient and positive workshop operations.
  • Perform technical tasks to required quality and manufacturer standards.
  • Manage personal workload effectively and productively.
  • Accurately record all hours worked and sold on job cards.
  • Record all lubricants, consumables, and parts used on job cards.
  • Follow all workshop systems and operational processes as instructed.
  • Build strong working relationships with parts department staff.
  • Ensure all work complies with minimum technical standards.
  • Participate in all training programmes and ongoing development initiatives.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with colleagues and apprentices.
  • Maintain professional conduct during breakdowns and customer interactions.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Keep service vehicles clean, compliant, and presentable.
  • Prepare effectively for breakdown calls by fully understanding job requirements.
  • Comply with road traffic laws and company vehicle policies.
  • Foster strong teamwork and mentorship relationships within the workshop.
  • Support skills transfer and productivity development among apprentices.
  • Take ownership of assigned apprentices and ensure effective training progression.
  • Complete all apprenticeship documentation and logbooks accurately.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and encourage compliance among colleagues.
  • Maintain a neat, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Properly use and care for tools, equipment, and company assets.
  • Manage working hours and overtime in line with labour regulations and workshop requirements.
  • Ensure warranty claims are correctly diagnosed using the 3 C’s method (Complaint, Cause, Correction).
