Our Client in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry is seeking to employ a SHE Officer to their team based in Port Elizabeth.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years' work experience in a manufacturing or related field.
- National Diploma in Safety Management (preferable) or equivalent and / or at least SAMTRAC.
- Previous working experience in a manufacturing facility.
- OHS-Act, ISO, Environmental, Noise & Energy – knowledge of requirements.
- Knowledge of all relevant safety systems and procedures.
- Tertiary studies in SHE field (Safety Management or environmental or equivalent).
- OHS-Act, ISO, Environmental, Noise & Energy related training or work experience.
Responsibilities, but not limited to:
Business Protection (20%)
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, ISO and legal audit requirements.
- Monitor implementation of HSE policies, procedures, standards and systems.
- Support achievement of compliance KPIs and annual targets.
- Implement and maintain HSE audits, inspections and checks to ensure OHS Act compliance.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (OHS Act, ISO, Environmental, Noise & Energy).
- Ensure legal requirements, reporting, inspections and submissions to authorities are completed.
Health & Safety Management (20%)
- Provide SHEE consulting and advisory support to manufacturing operations.
- Investigate and report workplace incidents and implement preventative measures.
- Conduct HIRA assessments and update SWPs and SOPs.
- Assist with employee SHEE inductions and ongoing training.
- Support safety programs, toolbox talks and safety bulletins.
- Maintain health and safety standards and enforce compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain compliance registers and conduct equipment safety inspections.
- Ensure contractor safety file compliance and issue work permits.
Environmental Management (25%)
- Ensure environmental management systems are implemented and maintained according to legislation and ISO requirements.
- Conduct environmental assessments and follow up on improvement actions.
- Prepare audit matrices and conduct internal environmental audits.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and injuries and attend relevant training.
Energy Management (10%)
- Support initiatives to reduce plant energy consumption.
- Promote energy awareness and implement energy-saving practices.
- Introduce energy-efficient equipment and technologies.
- Implement switching schedules, install sensors/timers and address air leaks.
Risk Management (10%)
- Ensure compliance with legislation and safety standards.
- Conduct departmental and contractor risk assessments.
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA).
- Identify hazards, assess risks, implement controls and develop mitigation projects.
- Monitor and reassess risks after improvements.
People Management / Support (15%)
- Attend production and HSE meetings and communicate SHEE updates.
- Support and guide SHE representatives and promote SHE culture.
- Conduct audits, manage rosters and support shift safety requirements.
- Assist with administrative duties, documentation and SharePoint updates.
- Maintain safety records, reports and improvement initiatives.
- Support safety improvement initiatives and compliance with KPIs.
- Assist with overtime and rotational weekend standby when required.
- Promote organisational values and standards.
- Encourage a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, integrity and performance.
