Description

Our Client in the Manufacturing Industry is seeking to employ a Production Manager to their team based in Pinetown KwaZulu - Natal.

Role Purpose: To lead and manage the production team to create a management culture that drives performance to ensure that good quality parts are produced on time in full and to budget to meet the expectations of customers and stakeholders in a safe working environment.

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree/diploma or Diploma in Production Management (NQF-Level 6/7).
  • Minimum 5 years of Production experience in the Metal Industry / Automotive Industry or similar, preferably OEM.
  • Experience in the Welding department is an advantage.
  • Good understanding with Microsoft Office as well as Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

Management

  • Process owner for the Production Department and is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating all policies and procedures in the department.
  • Responsible for meeting all customer and executive management KPIs for the Department.
  • When KPIs are not being met investigate root cause and implement improvements to improve performance.
  • Ensures risk assessments are conducted, planned, and executed activities to reduce high-risk processes.
  • 5s and housekeeping for all subordinates and areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for critical/risk issues such as risk stock levels, and potential SSNs.
  • Ensure Group Leaders follow their activity schedules.

Human Resource Development

  • Ensures group leaders use the production recording systems as per instructions for reporting production performance.
  • Promote good employee relations.
  • Ensures adequate human resources to carry out set operations at required efficiencies without incurring unnecessary overtime.

Training and Development

  • Manage, lead, and mentor departmental group leaders in their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensures critical skills are retained and skills are developed as a continuous program.
  • Training development, appraisal and mentorship of Group Leaders.
  • Recruitment of Supervisors and Technical specialists.

Problem Solving

  • Responsibility for on-time submission and resolution of customer complaints/CARs/Audit findings in your area of responsibility.
  • Be able to use the following Problem-Solving methods:
  • PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method.
  • DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method.
  • Clearly defining the problem (Define), measuring (Measure), and analyzing process data to identify root causes (Analyze), then implementing improvements (Improve) and controlling processes to ensure sustainable quality gains (Control).

8D (Eight Disciplines Problem Solving)

  • Prepare the 8D process.
  • Describe the problem.
  • Identify and implement immediate actions.
  • Identify the real causes.
  • Identify and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Validate permanent corrective actions.
  • Prevent recurrence.
  • Congratulate the team.

A3 Report.

  •  Identify the current situation, the nature of the issue, the range of possible counter-measures, the best countermeasure, the means (who will do what when) to put it into practice, and the evidence that the issue has actually been addressed.

Communication

  • Deal Directly with other department managers for shop floor problems such as tool/machine breakdowns and quality problems after escalation.

Standards, Procedures and Administration

  • Responsible for implementing standards, policies and procedures in the dept.
  • Ensure compliance with all Company standards and procedures.

Quality

  • Meet the quality requirements of the customers and the business.

Safety, Health, Environmental & Housekeeping

  • Implement and ensure adherence to the safety policies and procedures in your dept.

Budgets

  • Responsible for annual departmental budget submission to the Exec Management.
  • Responsible for ensuring all dept budgets are adhered to.

Reporting

  • On time and accurate reporting to the executive management as directed.
  • Management reporting to Exec Management level/ attend daily Ops meeting/ conduct weekly dept meetings with Group Leaders.
